Syllable-forming consonants r, ŕ, l, ĺ
In Slovak each syllable must contain a vowel or a diphthong:

| cvi-če-nie | Three syllables |
Besides vowels and diphthongs, the consonants r, ŕ, l, and ĺ can be "syllable-forming".
