Grammatical genders of nouns
In Slovak, there are three grammatical genders of nouns – masculine, feminine and neuter. We distinguish between the genders not only for people, but also for things, animals, plants, etc. If you want to use a noun correctly, you must know its gender.

Masculine: chlapec, strom, dom, lístok, autobus, vlak, hotel, pes, hokejista, stôl...
Feminine: stanica, ulica, kniha, ruža, ruka, noha, hlava, skriňa, izba, mačka, ceruzka, reštaurácia, tvár, pieseň...
Neuter: mesto, dievča, auto, parkovisko, srdce, okno, centrum, pero, lietadlo, letisko...
