Books

Who wants to become educated must value books more than gold. (John Amos Comenius)

Literature is traditionally divided into three basic categories: poetry, epics, and drama.

Each of the three literary genres is divided into literary sub-genres:

  • Lyric: ode, hymn, epigram ...
  • Epics: novel, short story, fable, fairytale ...
  • Drama: comedy, tragedy, drama ...

By linguistic forms literature can be divided into poetry (in verse), prose (unversified works) and drama (dialogues, theatre plays).

In this part you can learn about the most important Slovak writers: Pavol Országh-Hviezdoslav, Pavol Dobšinský and Terézia Vansová. Fans of folk literature will also find Slovak folk tales and legends. If you don´t understand the texts yet never mind – return to the lessons and try later.
