Grammatical genders of nouns

In Slovak, there are three grammatical genders of nouns – masculine, feminine and neuter. We distinguish between the genders not only for people, but also for things, animals, plants, etc. If you want to use a noun correctly, you must know its gender.

Plants: strom ruža ginko

chlapec, strom, dom, lístok, autobus, vlak, hotel, pes, hokejista, stôl...
Feminine
stanica, ulica, kniha, ruža, ruka, noha, hlava, skriňa, izba, mačka, ceruzka, reštaurácia, tvár, pieseň...
Neuter
mesto, dievča, auto, parkovisko, srdce, okno, centrum, pero, lietadlo, letisko...
