Eugene Andrew “Gene” Cernan (* 1934) is a former American astronaut of Czechoslovak descent. During the missions Apollo 10 (1969) and Apollo 17 (1972), he brought a Czechoslovak flag, which he gave in 1974 to the director of the Astronomical Institute in Ondřejov during his unofficial and secret visit to Czechoslovakia.
