Negation

Verb byť (to be):

Nie, to nie je vlak, ale autobus.

Nie, nie doma.

All other verbs:

1:
Máš dvadsať rokov?
2:
Nie, nemám dvadsať rokov.
1:
Cestoval si taxíkom?
2:
Nie, necestoval som taxíkom, ale električkou.
1:
Išiel si pešo?
2:
Nie, nešiel som pešo.

So-called double negation exists in Slovak, where more than one word with a negative meaning can be found in a sentence.

nikdy never
nemám I have not
1:
Je to dom?
Is it a house?
2:
Nie, to nie je žiadny/nijaký dom, to je auto.
No, it is not a house, it is a car.
1:
Máš čas?
Have you got time?
2:
Nie, nikdy nemám čas.
No, I never have time.

The meaning of the sentence is still negative.
